"What's in Your Piggy Bank???"

-The game "What's in Your Piggy Bank?" was used as a fitness alternative this past week for a K-2 students who have finished their Jump Rope Unit and have moved on to "Fitness Packed Games."  In this particular lesson, we focused on the mechanics of jogging/running, cardiovascular/muscular endurance and financial literacy.

In the game "What's in Your Piggy Bank?" K-2 students had to earn the trips to the bank by running laps around the gym.  One lap equaled one trip to the bank to collect either a coin or a bill.  Each team had three players and each individual player had to collect one of every kind of coin (penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar) and one of every single bill (1,5,10,20,50,100).  The first team of three players to have collected all of the given coins and bills by earning trips to the bank and was able to organize nicely in their hoops next to the game cards was declared the "first team to be done!"

This was a lot of fun to be able to add in "money recognition practice" while at the same time learning the essentials of running (proper cues involved "bent elbows", "balls of feet", "square shoulders", "swing arms", "eyes looking forward") and getting a great workout in.  Students were very tired after 25 minutes of this game.

Best,

-Mr. Shackett
